BroadSoft has introduced an eCommerce-enabled marketplace that allows end-users to browse and purchase communications applications online. BroadSoft-powered operators can offer an application store populated with their third-party applications sourced through its Xtended program, the company said.
The company claims that it creates revenue opportunities for telecommunications operators and application developers, while fulfilling the demand for services and applications that integrate voice with Web 2.0, mobility and social networking.
Currently in beta phase, the marketplace has got operators such as Comporium, SimpleSignal, Telesphere and WorldxChange that will introduce application stores by the first quarter of 2010.
According to BroadSoft, it offers an opportunity for developers to create and monetise communications applications by supporting an ‘onboard once-monetise everywhere’ integration model. By investing in onboarding their applications to the marketplace, developers gain access to the subscriber bases of BroadSoft’s global customers that reach more than 500m subscribers.
The first applications and services ready for purchase include: SpinVox Voicemail-to-Text, a monthly subscription-based service that converts voicemail messages to text and forwards them to a user’s email inbox; and Quickset Pro from JoeDeveloper, a downloadable application based on Adobe Air technology that manages a host of BroadWorks call functions, such as Sequential Ring, Speed Dial and Remote Office.
In addition, Mobile Max Enterprise Edition, a downloadable mobile unified communications client that allows routing of mobile calls through BroadWorks and access to key call functions from a mobile handset is also ready for purchase.
Leslie Ferry, vice president of marketing at BroadSoft, said: A significant milestone in the IP communications industry, the launch of the BroadSoft Marketplace completes the final phase of our three-pronged strategy for Xtended-technology, community and commerce.
“Starting with restful web services to attract the mainstream developer, we created a vibrant community of developers, which can now be sustained through commerce through the Marketplace. Service providers can immediately capitalise on and monetise the creative innovation of this developer community, while delivering value-added communications applications to their subscribers.
