Metaswitch Networks said that RCN, a provider of video, internet, and voice services to residential and small-medium business customers will upgrade its entire voice network to provide a range of IP telephony applications and services with equipment provided by Metaswitch.
The company said that it was selected for the legacy switch migration and rollout of IP-based services, which will allow RCN to reduce costs and operational complexity and to provide enhanced products across its customer base.
Reportedly, RCN will leverage Metaswitch’s distributed IP architecture to launch product and service offerings. It will offer SIP-based hosted unified communications services for businesses, tailored to their specific needs, and consumer VoIP services for residential customers.
Rick Swiderski, vice president of engineering at RCN, said: We need to continue to invest in our voice network to stay ahead of the competition. After an in-depth selection process, we identified MetaSphere as the strongest IP voice platform, based on its advanced features, flexibility, and powerful, easy-to-use network management tools. It will enable us to deliver the absolute best quality of experience to our customers.
John Lazar, CEO of Metaswitch, said: RCN is widely recognised as a technology leader among the largest cable operators. They demand product reliability, innovation and first class support from their vendors, and we are committed to helping RCN achieve their goals.
