Quest Software unveils new LiteSpeed offering for SQL Server

Provides multi-instance back-up management

By CBR Staff Writer

Quest Software has unveiled new LiteSpeed offering for SQL Server, which provides multi-instance backup management so DBAs can apply consistent backup strategies across the entire SQL Server environment.

The new offering includes Adaptive Compression, a feature that automatically performs real-time adjustments to backup compression in response to changing server loads.

LiteSpeed’s new Backup Templates features give DBAs the ability to design and, when needed, modify SQL backup strategies and easily deploy them to the entire SQL Server environment across the organisation, said the company.

In addition, the offering includes an Adaptive Compression feature which automatically performs real-time adjustments to backup compression in response to changing server loads.

Moreover, adaptive compression is now supported by LiteSpeed’s Fast Compression technology, which can reduce backup storage and backup time by up to 85 percent over competing offerings by intelligently backing up only database changes, the company said.

Quest Software architecture and design director David Gugick said by using LiteSpeed’s new Backup Templates, users can quickly manage backups across the entire enterprise directly from LiteSpeed to reduce administration overhead and adapt quickly to changing business requirements.

"Combined with Fast Compression and our new Adaptive Compression support, LiteSpeed raises the bar for SQL Server backup and recovery, giving DBAs the fastest backups at the smallest possible size to save valuable storage, improve maintenance windows, and reduce administration costs," Gugick said.
