Oracle adds monitoring of EMC NAS

Oracle Corp is further broadening out the reach of its Enterprise Manager console to add EMC Celerra Network-Attached Storage.

By CBR Staff Writer

The first of several announcements to come regarding support of EMC networked storage, the announcement provides levels of support similar to what Oracle already provides for Network Appliance Inc, EMC’s major NAS rival.

Oracle is adding the ability to monitor status, data movement rates, plus size and usage of file systems, volumes, and pools. It can automatically collect track configuration data, and provide a range of reports on performance and network configuration.

Like other plug-ins, such as the recently announced capabilities for Microsoft .NET servers, the EMC network attached storage monitor feeds the application and service level management and reporting capabilities of Oracle’s Grid control.

Oracle and EMC are hardly strangers, with both sharing over 40,000 joint customers. And both have previously been members of each other’s developer programs. And, prior to this, database administrators have always had the ability to allocate storage resources to data. The new tool provides more detailed monitoring capability to what had previously been a black box.

The EMC NAS plug-in is priced at $1,500 per terabyte of managed storage, and is available on Linux, UNIX and Windows platforms
