EE sets European record for 4G growth

Operator reveals it added 5.7 million new customers to 4G in 2014.

By Alexander Sword

EE has announced that it added 5.7 million new customers to the 4G network in 2014.

The UK mobile operator boosted their 4G user base from 2 million to 7.7 million in the last year, exceeding their year-end target of 6 million. The service was rolled out in 210 more towns, meaning that 510 UK towns and cities are now covered by the service.

The figures mean that EE has added more 4G customers than any other European operator.

"Our goal remains to roll out 4G to 98% of the population by the end of 2015, which would make it one of the fastest rollouts of 4G across Europe," commented an EE spokesperson. "We run the largest 4G network in the UK, covering significantly more areas than any other provider."

The 4G market has expanded hugely throughout the last year. The firm claimed that six times more 4G data was uploaded and downloaded by customers in 2014 than in 2013.
