The decision by the Business Quality Messaging (BQM) group to move its Special Interest Group (SIG) meeting to New York at the end of last month to coincide with a gathering of the Message- Oriented Middleware Association (MOMA) appears to have paid off. BQM gained 20 new members at the meeting, and IBM Corp and Microsoft Corp (two to the BQM’s founding members) are preparing a functional specification for the group’s next meeting in July. The BQM initiative was set up with the goal of driving interoperable messaging technologies into use in volume applications and devices. IBM and Microsoft will, using their respective MQWare and Falcon messaging software and come up with a functional specification to act as a foundation for discussion at the BQM’s next meeting in Chicago on July 16. Vice-chair of the group, Intel Corp said those discussions could eventually lead to a single BQM API, but that was not certain yet. New members of BQM – which is not a standards body, the founders insist, and is open to all-comers – include Compaq computer Corp, Citicorp, Reuters holdings Plc and Bank of America. Intel said the decision to move the meeting to a building a block away from MOMA’s meeting inflated attendance by at least 25.
