JAPANESE STUDY ON TELEPHONE USAGE

The Japanese Ministry of Posts & Telecommunications has issued a study on telephone usage, which shows that new common carriers have gained a 54% share of the inter-prefectural long-distance telephone market in the central Honshu corridor: their gains on this route, which encompasses Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka, has been at the expense of Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp; their lower tariffs are thought to be the reason for their success.
