IBM Japan Ltd claims to have the world’s smallest and lightest colour notebook computer, the ThinkPad 230Cs. A successor machine to the A5 size notebook ThinkPad 220, it was developed in response to a questionnaire conducted of ThinkPad users. The screen consists of a 7.8 dual scan SuperTwist Nematic colour liquid crystal diode, which displays 256 colours; the CPU is an 80486SX-33MHz. Overall size is 9.2 by 6.7 by 1.6 high and with batteries the unit weighs 3 lbs 12 oz. It also supports Type II and Type III PCMCIA/JEIDA cards for the addition of hard disk and Flash memory. It also comes installed with PC-DOS J6.3/V and Windows 3.1, as well as Lotus Development Corp Organiser, and can support OS/2. The 130Mb hard disk model costs $3,442 while the 260Mb hard disk model is $3,826.
