Google extends Sync service for Windows Phone users until December

The earlier cutoff date was July 31.

By CBR Staff Writer

Google has extended Sync service access to new Windows Phone users until December 31.

Through Google Sync users can access Google Mail, as well as it calendar and contacts to synchronise all three with their phones.

Google had previously decided to extend the service until July 31 after saying it would no longer provide support for new users from January 30, 2013, in order to allow Microsoft to build CardDAV and CalDAV support into Windows Phone 8.

The Verge quoted a Microsoft spokesperson as saying: "We’ve reached an agreement with Google to extend support for new Windows Phone connections to the Google Sync service through December 31, 2013."

Although CalDAV and CardDAV support has been enabled by Microsoft in its latest Windows Phone 8 update, many handsets do not have the update yet.

This extension will allow most of Microsoft’s handsets to be capable of supporting the protocols needed to sync Google calendar and contacts.
