Digital Equipment Corp wants to drive its software much harder, and is lining up resellers prepared to bundle DEC software products with their own. The first two such partners are the proud new owner of the DEC Rdb relational database, Oracle Corp, and Computer Associates Internation Inc. This announcement signals our intent to significantly increase our partnerships and alliances, Nancy Strecker, vice-president of Digital Software Products, told Reuters: Now 30% of our software worldwide is sold through partners; we expect that to be 50% by the end of this fiscal year. It wants 1,000 LinkWorks resellers by end-June – up from 300 now. Under the new pacts, Oracle and Computer Associates will sell and service LinkWorks with their database software – combined with either CA-Ingres or Oracle7 will be $500 per user, a 44% discount on buying them separately; DEC expects to add Sybase Inc this month. A new version of Pathworks has Mosaic graphics makes finding data on the Internet easier, and DEC now pricing Pathworks and LinkWorks by CPU size. DEC’s AccessWorks gateways can now access 66 databases, up from nine.
