DATAFOCUS UPGRADES NUTCRACKER WITH NEW PC X SERVER

By CBR Staff Writer

The Unix-to-NT tool NuTcracker, which DataFocus Inc, its developer, claims has been used to port over a thousand Unix applications and more than 200m lines of code, is now up to release 3. The new version includes a PC X server from the Santa Cruz Operation Inc, optional support for OpenGL applications compliments of Hummingbird Communications Ltd, MKS Inc’s Toolkit 5.2, new Unix commands, utilities and application programming interfaces. DataFocus says that NuTcracker allows most Unix applications to run on NT 4.0 with changes to only one-tenth of one percent of the source code, an average of one line per thousand. Some applications require no changes. DataFocus calls its software more than port and notes that NuTcracker provides for integrating old Unix applications with Windows productivity programs.
