Kickfire has unveiled a new data warehouse appliance for powering mainstream data warehouse systems up to 5TB in size. The plug-and-play appliance, which incorporates parallel-processing SQL chip, a columnar engine, and MySQL, reportedly delivers increased performance by running queries and enables quicker deployment with a streamlined Migration Wizard and a faster Loader.
The Kickfire 3000 Series appliance, which starts at $32,000, also includes enterprise-class features such as high-availability, query-while-load, increased capacity and a RAID card for external storage, the company said.
In a separate annoucment, Kickfire said that it has won new customers, including Mindspark Interactive Network, a division of IAC, and LiveRail, a company engaged in video ad server market.
Bruce Armstrong, CEO of Kickfire, said: “The vast majority of data warehouse professionals need affordable high performance data warehousing at the terabyte-scale, especially given recent reductions in budget.
“Our breakthrough parallel-processing SQL chip delivers the industry’s best performance per dollar, per watt, per cubic foot. We’re focused on helping the thousands of organisations that would have otherwise deferred projects due to cost.”
Dan Vesset, VP business analytics solutions research at IDC, said: “IDC’s market research confirms that two thirds of all data warehouses are in the sub-5 TB size range and that MySQL represents the third most frequently used database for data warehousing. Therefore, we expect this Kickfire product to find a receptive audience among many organisations looking to boost their data warehousing and business analytics capabilities while controlling their initial and ongoing costs of such a solution.”
