CONTROL DATA HAS 1Gb 9″ FSD

By CBR Staff Writer

Control Data Corp has added a 1Gb disk drive at the top of its 9 FSD line of OEM Winchester drives that were first introduced at the National Computing Conference in 1983. The new FSD-3 drive joins the existing 513Mb, 340Mb and 160Mb models, of which more than 100,000 have been shipped. It has a 2.4Mbyte-per-second transfer rate, 14mS seek time and 4mS average track-to-track access time. The drive is offered with SMD, SMD-E and IPI interfaces, and occupies half of a standard 19 rack. It is priced at $6,990 in OEM quantities of 250 up.
