COMPUTERS TAKE PI TO GREAT LENGTHS

A Japanese scientist from Tokyo University has managed to beat two US brothers at Columbia University, New York to calculate pi to more than 50 billion decimal places. Professor Yasumasa Kanda used two computers to calculate the figure by over 48 billion times more than the previous figure. Stretched out in a line of print, the figure would go three times round the world, reports the Times of London.
