COMPUTER SYSTEMS POLICY PROJECT GETS TRANSFER

The US Department of Energy and the Computer Systems Policy Project, which brings together the chief executives of 12 big computer manufacturers have reached agreement on transfer to industry of technology developed in the Department’s national laboratories, which employ 59,000 scientists, the Washington Post reports: areas covered by the agreement include advanced software, new materials, microelectronics and manufacturing techniques, most of which were developed for the US nuclear weapons programme.
