Houston, Texas-based NuView Inc has signed a co-marketing agreement with its neighbor, Compaq Computer Corp, for Windows NT system management software. NuView, founded in January 1996, has been working away at a set of object oriented systems management tools for NT called Manage X, with the idea of lowering administration costs through centralized and proactive management of distributed applications. NuView has built its software using such standards as Microsoft Corp’s DCOM distributed component model, ActiveX, Java and Web based technologies. Perhaps as important, it has latched on to Microsoft’s own forthcoming Microsoft Management Console architecture, currently out in a beta version, and claims to be the first company to have MMC- compatible software ready for the market. MMC is likely to appear eventually as part of NT 5.0 towards the end of next year (CI No 3,256). With Compaq, NuView will integrate ManageX with Compaq’s Insight Manager and Desktop Intelligent Manageability products to monitor the status, performance and availability of NT-based distributed systems, Compaq hardware, and Microsoft BackOffice software. The integration work involves combining the hardware parameters from Insight Manager and Intelligent Manageability with ManageX. It will be out in the fourth quarter of this year. The Compaq deal is not the first integration agreement NuView has won. In August, Data General Corp signed for the product, and last week unveiled its Aviion Nterprise manager, integrating ManageX with its own NTAlert hardware monitoring system. Data General says it’s planning to pre-install the software on all new shipments of its Aviion NT server.
