Box and Dropbox strike deals to flog cloud services

Both firms are pursuing integration with other companies' products.

By Jimmy Nicholls

Telecoms firm AT&T has partnered with Box to give its NetBond customers access to the cloud service through its virtual private networks (VPN).

The move is being promoted as an extension of Box’s integration with AT&T Toggle, a method for enabling bring your own device policies in business.

Whitney Bouck, senior VP of global marketing at Box, said: "Companies want to move their content to the cloud to power increased mobile productivity and collaboration across their businesses."

René Dufrene, VP of business solutions at AT&T, described working from any device "the new norm", and hailed the deal between the firms as a boon to workforce productivity.

In a similar move Box rival Dropbox has partnered with the security firm Avira to push the cloud service on the latter company’s users.

Avira customers installing the firm’s software will now be offered the option to download Dropbox, in a software bundling tactic that is sometimes disparaged as crapware.

Jason Radisson, online VP at Avira, said: "With just a few clicks, Avira’s new users can have free antivirus protection across all their devices, plus the confidence in knowing that their data will be synced to every device and backed up in case of loss."
