BORDERS ENTERS THE ONLINE BOOKSELLER FRAY WITH CNET DEAL

By CBR Staff Writer

As Amazon.com Inc and Barnes & Noble Inc slug it out for bragging rights in the world of online book sales, book retailing giant Borders Group Inc is jockeying for position to join the fun. It has inked a deal with internet publisher CNet Inc to make its Borders.com subsidiary the exclusive bookseller on all of CNET’s websites and services, including the new Snap! Online service. The sites will feature links to Borders’ online bookstore placed alongside the editorial content to provide quick access to relevant book titles. Snap! will feature links to Borders.com in each channel and throughout its web search area. In return, subsidiaries Borders Inc and Walden Book Co will provide extensive retail promotion of CNET websites and Snap! Online, including the distribution of the Snap! starter kit CD-ROM in Borders and Waldenbooks stores nationwide.
