BAY IMPROVES NETWORK MANAGEMENT WITH NMS 8.0 UPGRADE

By CBR Staff Writer

Bay Networks Inc has beefed up its network management offerings with Optivity Network Management System (NMS) 8.0 – a combination of the existing Optivity LAN and Optivity Internetwork modules of the Optivity Enterprise network management along with some additional functions. These include Bay’s new NETarchitect system-level management suite which automates the configuration of ATM networks as well as enhancing remote access server management including support for Bay’s System 5000MSX model 5399 Remote Access Server (RAS). According to Bay, the NETarchitect application enables multi-device switching systems to be managed as a single entity, not a group of individual devices. Updates are made at the system level. In this initial release, NETarchitect provides support for Bay Networks switch and router product lines. The NETarchitect suite comprises three main applications: File Manager used to upload and download configurations and images to a system of network devices, the Configuration Editor – to create and modify network configurations, allowing changes to be made simultaneously across multiple devices and the Security Editor which controls user access to the NETarchitect system by using profiles created for each network manager. Optivity NMS 8.0 also provides additional support for new devices from Bay, including support for the MLS 5525 Token Ring segment switch and the C50N, C50T and BayStack 302 workgroup switches. The Optivity NMS 8.0 solution is currently shipping and costs $11,990 as a standalone application or part of the Optivity Enterprise 8.0 network management suite priced at $17,995.
