Apple close to Time Warner Cable deal

Deal is expected within next few months.

By CBR Staff Writer

Apple is close to a deal with Time Warner Cable, expected to be announced in a few months, that would allow Apple TV subscribers access the cable TV service.

As part of the move, the iPhone maker is also hiring online-video service Hulu marketing and distribution VP Pete Distad to assist its executives in discussions with media and cable firms.

Time Warner Cable is also offering similar services as of Apple to Roku’s online TV device and the Xbox gaming console, Bloomberg reported.

The US cable provider is working to make programming available for some televisions made by Samsung Electronics, while offering channels for the iPhone, iPad and mobile devices powered by Google’s Android via its TWC TV app.

Apple has recently added the HBO Go and WatchESPN apps to its TV service.

The iPhone maker has also applied for the registration of trade name of ‘iWatch’ in Japan, indicating the firm’s means to entry into the watch like wearable device market.
