70 GO AS DATA I/O RECASTS COMPUTER-AIDED ENGINEERING

By CBR Staff Writer

Data I/O Corp, Redmond, Washington has moved to stem losses in its computer-aided engineering business. The FutureNet Division in Chatsworth, California will be consolidated at the Redmond headquarters, with manufacturing, customer support, and research and development all making the long trek up the coast where sales and marketing are already based – at a cost of 60 to 80 jobs and a likely charge of $4m to $6m net on 1987 profits. The company will shed all computer-aided engineering products that do not have market leadership, proprietary technology, and synergy with the company’s device programmer products. The core FutureNet products will now be the Abel, Dash, FutureDesigner and PLDTest software products. The Endot subsidiary in Cleveland, Ohio remains open, but Data I/O may try to sell the unit.
