Zynga’s New York studio chief Dan Porter has quit the social gaming firm a year after its $180m acquisition of his mobile game start-up, OMGPOP, failed to generate the anticipated results.
Porter’s departure comes on the eve of the launch of Draw Something 2, which is projected to be the big follow-up to the original and is already live in Sweden.
Zynga has appointed Sean Kelly, who led its CityVille game, to succeed Porter.
Zynga COO David Ko said in a statement developing and launching games is a team effort, and the company is proud of the great work the Zynga New York team has done with Draw Something 2.
"We thank Dan Porter for his efforts in making the Draw Something franchise a success and wish him well in his future endeavors," Ko said.
"We’re proud to see talent like Sean Kelly take a bigger leadership role as the Head of our New York studio and lead the team to the global launch of Draw Something 2."
In January 2013, Zynga’s chief game designer Brian Reynolds, who was responsible for the development of titles including ‘CityVille 2’ and founded the company’s Baltimore studio, also quit the beleaguered online gaming firm.
In addition, the firm has also seen several other exits including vice president Roy Sehgal and general manager, Steve Schreck in December 2012.
The firm has also axed eleven games so far as part of its intended shutdown of 13 game titles.
