By CBR Staff Writer

Chinese telecommunications equipment and network services provider ZTE Corporation has won a commercial IPTV contract from CANTV, a telecom carrier in Venezuela.

During the first phase of the project, ZTE will work with CANTV to deploy ZTE’s ZXBIV IPTV Eyewill service in order to enable the company offer IPTV access to 67090 users. This IPTV service allows CANTV to offer services packages with over 140 channels.

The company claimed that, the project, which commenced in July 2008, attracted competition from virtually all the IPTV suppliers worldwide due to its large budget as well as huge subscriber base target. This IPTV service allows CANTV to offer services packages with over 140 channels.

Charles Chimaras, vice president for sales and marketing of ZTE Venezuela, said: Intelligent carriers like CANTV do not always opt for the lowest bidder but instead choose the best strategic partner. Although ZTE is technically superior and possesses an in-depth experience in IPTV, we encountered huge challenges before being awarded with this contract.

Recently ZTE Corporation announced that it has partnered with Sichuan Telecom to establish the first IMS-based EV-DO video telephony (VT) call in China. The company said that it has plans to launch a series of commercial EV-DO terminals equipped with video phone features by end of Q2 this year.
