Telecommunications equipment and network offerings provider ZTE has unveiled a compact optical transport network (OTN) metro edge layer device, the ZXMP M721.

The company said the new device is the latest addition to ZTE’s iOTN product family, and enables ZTE to provide global operators with complete end-to-end (E2E) OTN solutions from the metro edge layer to the metro core and backbone layers.

The ZXMP M721’s networking technologies include E2E service provisioning, E2E service dispatching, E2E operation, administration and maintenance (OAM) and E2E 1588 V2 time synchronisation that help deliver a unified, future-proof E2E OTN metro transport network.

The ZXMP M721 is 1U or 2U high and supports DC and AC power supply, and includes a range of new technologies to meet the changing requirements of metro edge layer networking.

Its network control processor and power board support 1+1 backup, supports access between100Mbit/s to 4.25Gbit/s, enables aggregation of 4~22 services and upgrade to one optical channel, supports L2 switching with complete OAM function and 1588 V2 time synchronisation, the company said.

It can support up to 8 wavelengths of CWDM 10G transmission to enable the interconnection of CWDM and DWDM.

ZTE has launched the new generation iOTN transport platform in late 2010, which included the ZXONE 8000, ZXWM M920 and ZXMP M820 series products, coupled with WASON, PXC, L2 switching and OTN technology.

The company notes these products can meet various transmission requirements from the long-distance backbone layer to the metro layer as they encompass efficient optical/electrical layer service dispatching and carrier-class protection functions.
