Zix Corporation’s PocketScript solution enables physicians to write prescriptions electronically and send them directly to pharmacies through either a wireless handheld PDA or a secure website.

The application includes formulary information, a drug reference guide, drug-to-drug and drug-to-allergy checking, and patient-specific drug-dispensed history lists.

We’ve been very pleased with the results of e-prescribing by our participating physicians, said Dr Peter Goldbach of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. The eRx Collaborative has seen more than 5,500 changed prescriptions per month as a result of doctors being alerted to potentially adverse reactions for their patients, made possible, in part, by having the patient’s drug histories available through the system. The success to date has allowed us to make this program available to even more physician members.
