ZILOG JOINS FORCES WITH CATALYST TO DO FLASH MEMORY CARDS

By CBR Staff Writer

Zilog Inc, Campbell, California has teamed up with Catalyst Semiconductor Inc to enter the Flash memory market. The two have been developing a Flash card for use in mobile computers. Under the division of labour, Zilog has been designing a controller chip and software package and Catalyst has been designing sub-micron Flash memory chips. The two will jointly define the architecture and interface communication protocol for memory cells. As with most of these announcements, the two have clearly been working together secretly for many months because beta testing starts this quarter.
