Zilog Inc, the Campbell, California-based ASIC chip design and manufacturing house has appointed James Thorburn chief financial officer. Thorburn was previously vice president of operations finance at National Semiconductor Corp. He replaces Robert Collins, who will leave the company on May 29. The company’s results have been somewhat disappointing of late, with net profits for the year to December 31 down 60.5% at $11.9m on revenue that fell 12.5% to $261.1m (CI No 3,337), and first quarter losses this year of $19.9m on revenue down 29.4% at $49.5m, compared to net income of $4.8m last year, although this did include merger-related charges of $13.3m (CI No 3,396). Earlier this year, Zilog lured Lucent Technologies Inc’s microelectronics group president Curtis Crawford (CI No 3,321).
