Oakland, California-based Zhone’s technology offering is its Single-Line Multi-Service architecture, with products that include a Multi-Access Line Concentrator, ATM/IP DSLAMs, residential gateways, optical transport systems, and a management console.

By acquiring Largo, Florida-based Paradyne, it gets a portfolio that includes broadband loop carriers, DSLAMs, Ethernet in the First Mile bonded solutions, integrated access devices, and customer premises equipment. The Paradyne kit enables not only residential triple-play offerings, but also business services such as bonded SHDSL, ADSL2+, T1/E1, and bonded DS3 for LAN extension, as well as for cell site data backhaul.

Zhone said that in addition to filling out its product offering and strengthening its position in BLCs, the acquisition would bolster both its balance sheet and net cash balance.
