Zenith Electronics Corp has teamed with Tele-Communications Inc to link an Indiana school district to a new networking system that offers fast access to data via the local cable television system: the system links all 40 sites of Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corp in southern Indiana, including 37 elementary schools, high schools and administrative facilities, making it the largest school-wide network to date in the country, and enables school administrators and teachers to share district-wide information and reports, transfer grades and send electronic mail; and ultimately, the network can be expanded to link students through a personal computer, a modem and a ordinary cable television line in their home; the system uses existing Tele-Communications television cables and Zenith’s Channel-Mizer device for linking local nets to cable systems.
