ZBD, a provider of electronic shelf edge labels and associated software offerings for the global retail industry, has said that it will launch epaper offering in cooperation with one of Estonia’s telecom providers, Tele2, in its mobile phone stores in Estonia.

ZBD said that the new epaper offering will be introduced in early 2011 and is prompted by the introduction of new regulations for price display in Estonia.

Tele2 Estonia is part of a pan-European telecoms group that will replace its current paper-based labelling system with ZBD’s epop 500 (electronic point of purchase) displays.

The epop 500 ensures that the labeling displays always show the correct pricing for products, without the need for manual intervention, and allows the retailer to quickly and easily execute promotional campaigns.

Tele2 Estonia director of retail sales and customer operations Kristiina Mitt said the company decided to trial the ZBD technology in two of their stores because they wanted to find a way to ensure that they always display the correct price information to their customers.

"We saw the benefit from the trial as the ZBD offering integrates with our POS, the system is fully automatic, now, when the product prices are changed on the POS, they are automatically changed on the epops in the store," Mitt said.

"This has already saved us a great deal of time in the pilot stores, as we currently display two prices in Estonia – EURO and EEK (Estonian Kroon)."

"Currently, the EURO must be placed first, and from July 2011, only the EURO will be displayed and with so much price updating required, it’s a massive business benefit to know the prices displayed on our products are correct and up to date, with no need to find resource to print out labels."

ZBD said that the full rollout will be undertaken by ipMedia, the company’s VISION partner in Estonia, and is due to commence in February 2011.
