YUZO HIRAI AND HITACHI TO CO-DEVELOP INTEGRATED CIRCUIT

By CBR Staff Writer

Yuzo Hirai, a professor at the University of Tsukuba and researchers at Hitachi Ltd have joined forces to develop an integrated circuit which is claimed to operate in a manner similar to the human nervous system – how’s that for hype? and the partners say no other researchers in the world have developed such an comprehensive digital neural chip: front-ended by a conventional processor, an array of the chips could be used for fuzzy matching applications, and the developers reckon they can raise the speed of it up to 1,000-fold.
