YouTube removes nearly 30,000 copyrighted videos

YouTube has removed nearly 30,000 videos from its website following complaints from a group of Japanese media companies that said their copyright was being infringed.

A total of 29,549 TV, movie and music-based video clips were taken down after The Japan Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers said they were posted without its permission.

The group represents 23 media companies, including movie distributors and TV networks. A spokesperson said that the group was considering asking YouTube to setup a screening process to prevent illegal files being uploaded onto the site.

YouTube was recently purchased by Google for $1.65 billion.
