YouTube is set to launch a new app especially designed for Kids, with plans in place to offer the app on smartphones and tablets.

Bloomberg reported YouTube as saying that the new app will include age-appropriate videos, channels and playlists designed to create a safer environment for children.

It is expected to include original episodes of television shows including "Sesame Street," and "Thomas the Tank Engine’.

Channel partners of the new app include DreamWorks TV and National Geographic.

The app is expected to include control features for parents, which will allow them to set a timer to restrict the amount of time kids spend on the app.

YouTube’s parent company Google is expanding its audience demographics by investing in technology for children.

Recently, Google acquired a kid-friendly mobile app maker, Launchpad Toys, which encourages kids to draw, narrate, animate and record their own cartoons.

Previously, Google engineering VP Pavni Diwanji also indicated about a child friendly version of Chrome and YouTube for children under the age of 12.
