Yokogawa Electric has won an order from Pertamina, the Indonesian national oil company for a liquified petroleum gas plant control system to watch over the entire flow process from the gas field through the production plant to the storage tanks and on to shipment, via an optical fibre network: Yokogawa won the $11.8m contract by besting former exclusive suppler Honeywell, which dominates the liquified gas market on an international basis; establishment of a regional engineering centre in Singapore helped Yokogawa Electric to win the contract, which is a step on the way to its ambition to become a dominant industrial machinery supplier – and ambition that led to it building a US plant in 1986.
