Japanese manufacturer YE Data has a 5.25 floppy disk drive, the YE-801 that can read the 1.2Mb disks used on the IBM Personal AT, but stores 2.4Mb. Using 3M disks, it achieves the capacity by doubling the linear density at 96 tracks per inch. YE will make the drives, likely to be $300 OEM, at a 45,000 monthly rate.
