Yahoo secures Lycos deal

Lycos Europe NV has extended its relationship with Overture Services under which it takes text advertising from the Yahoo! Inc subsidiary. The companies said yesterday the deal starts January 1 and is "multi-year".

By CBR Staff Writer

Lycos Europe is 32%-owned by Terra Lycos SA, which also owns Lyocs Inc in the US, which has not had a friendly relationship with Yahoo, a competitor, recently.

In October, Lycos sued Yahoo for allegedly misappropriating trade secrets obtained when Yahoo bought Overture. At the same time, the company started using Google Inc’s search advertising in place of Overture’s.

Lycos Europe announced a deal in June to take Google’s context-based text advertising for its Tripod consumer web hosting service.
