176 regional papers will be able to use Yahoo’s HotJobs classifieds from December, and will provide local news content, links and maps, which will boost their national reach and increase Yahoo’s regional exposure.

The seven newspaper groups that have signed up are EW Scripps, Hearst, Belo, Cox Newspapers, MediaNews, Journal Register and Lee Enterprises. The deal is expected to last five years. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Yahoo’s rival Google is also working with the printed press. It is piloting a system that will offer advertising space in 50 US newspapers, including The New York Times and The Washington Post.
