The Yahoo! Inc Internet directory and Granite Broadcasting Corp have signed an agreement to integrate their respective Internet and television content. Under the terms of the deal, the two will work together to integrate relevant Web sites and information into the Granite newscasts and the stations’ own Web sites. Yahoo is to feature local news feeds from Granite’s nine network-affiliated stations, located in the mid-western US, New York and California. All nine Granite network-affiliated stat ions will be launching the service within the next month. This alliance will produce a fundamental change in the gathering and dissemination of television news. For the first time, television viewers will take charge of the news with easy access to detailed information on the news most important to them. No longer will television be considered a superficial delivery system, said Stuart Beck, president of Granite, talking of the transition of the Internet to an interactive television or cable model.
