Yahoo has extended its video distribution deal with online music video hub Vevo, in a deal that will bring Vevo’s music videos, live concert events and original programming to Yahoo’s own video streaming service.

According to the deal, consumers in the US and Canada will initially be able to access Vevo-powered music programming, including exclusives, on the Yahoo Screen.

The service will also be expanded to consumers in the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy.

Vevo president and CEO Rio Caraeff said that the renewed partnership with Yahoo will bring Vevo’s programming to more music fans than ever before.

"Yahoo has the potential to be one of our largest partners and our launch across Yahoo Screen and, soon in more countries and on more platforms, is a big win for viewers who want to watch their favorite music video programming anytime and anywhere," Caraeff said.

The latest deal also underscores Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer’s approach to boost video views in efforts to augment the time spent by consumers on its websites.

Yahoo is reportedly considering producing original TV programmes including a series comprising of 10 half-hour-long comedies, similar to the content developed by online streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon.
