XOPEN MAKES IT CLEAR ITS OBJECT ROLE DOES NOT CLASH WITH THE OBJECT MANAGEMENT GROUP’s WORK ON INFRASTRUCTURE

By CBR Staff Writer

X/Open Co Ltd says that its relationship with the Object Management Group is complementary and not in conflict. It reckons that the Object Group’s role is to concentrate on object-oriented infrastructure technology while X/Open focuses on system-level applications, development environments, databases and programming languages plus testing and branding. X/Open has already adopted the Object Group Common Object Request Broker Architecture and Common Object Services and is developing a test development tool, with the help of funding from Ministry of International Trade & Industry in Japan, to re-use test code. It expects to have a CORBA test suite out by the fourth quarter.
