X/OPEN LAYS OUT THE PROBLEM AREAS WITHIN SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT

By CBR Staff Writer

X/Open Co Ltd is attempting to jump-start its Systems Management programme with the publication ofan initial Problem Statement document, which attempts to define what X/Open calls a large and confused area within systems management. It is designed to establish a starting point for future future discussions and provoke feedback from the market. The 40-page document summarises the plethora of standardisation efforts working in this area, and puts over the view of the X/Open Systems Management Group that there is a need for the convergence of network and systems management, although the two areas do not entirely overlap. The document costs $40 and is available from X/Open.
