XML applications developer DataChannel Inc has handed control of the month-old XML Active Content Technologies Council (X-ACT) to OASIS, the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards, formerly known as the SGML Open Consortium (CI No 3,374). A non-profit organization representing vendors with a commercial stake in document interchange, such as Adobe, Fuji Xerox, OpenText and Sun Microsystems, OASIS changed its name two weeks ago to reflect its interests in HTML and XML (Extensible Markup Language) as well as in the SGML standard on which they are based. The group now plans to supply an XML-based web site, training, working groups and interoperability testing to XML developers. X-ACT counts Allaire, Informix, PLATINUM Technology Solutions, Poet Software, Sybase and Wall Data among its members.
