XIRCOM LAUNCHES ITS OWN 56KBPS UPGRADE PROGRAM

By CBR Staff Writer

The move to 56Kbps technology is proving to have a significant impact on the industry with companies vying to capitalize on a new demand for modems. Xircom Inc is matching a similar offer made by modem rival Hayes Microcomputer Products Inc whereby customers may trade in any exiting modem or combo PC Cards for 56K technology for $100. In Xircom’s case there is also the promise of a free flash upgrade to the future 56K ITU modem standard. Xircom will also offer discounts on its CreditCard Ethernet 10/100+Modem 56, which combines 100Mbps Ethernet and 56K modem capabilities in a card. The program also offers discounts on the planned CreditCard Modem 56, which will default to the fastest applicable modem speed where 56K technology is not yet available.
