Xerox Corp’s El Segundo, California-based Xerox Technology Ventures, which is run as an independently-managed venture capital group, has formed two new companies, Document Sciences Corp and PixelCraft Inc. Document Sciences is in the automated database publishing software market, and provides software designed to save time by enabling users to compose high-quality documents on a computer and print them on most laser printers. PixelCraft’s mission is to provide high-quality, attractively priced computer image scanners and related software for the graphic arts, professional publishing, and pre-press industries. Xerox Technology Ventures looks after its portfolio companies by combining traditional venture capital with its ability to draw on Xerox’s market, financial, and staff resources. Founded in 1989, it supplies seed and early stage funding for investments that fall outside its parent’s mainstream business. So far, it has funded 14 technology ventures worldwide, of which 11 are currently under its management and seven are already up, running and doing business.
