XEROX TO USE THE SUN SPARC PROCESSOR IN NEW LINE OF HARDWARE

Along with ICL and Unisys, Xerox Corp is one of the few major companies known to have definite plans for a new line of hardware using the Sun Microsystems Sparc processor – and now industry sources are expecting to see a Sparc motherboard option to boost the power of Xerox’s proprietary 6085 line of workstations by early next year; it is expected to boost the power of the current 8MHz Mesa processor by between five and 12 times, and produce a line of workstations costing between $2,000 and $6,000.
