Having finally shaken off the temptation to make its own computers, Stamford, Connecticut-based Xerox Corp is now pouring all its resources into software, and its latest move is TO create XSoft, the Xerox Software Group, to expedite development of software designed to create and manage documents and expand the business into open systems. Based in Sunnyvale, California, XSoft combines two Xerox units, Xerox Systems Software and the Xerox Integrated Systems Marketing organisation. Central to XSoft products are the Xerox GlobalView-based office applications for personal computers, Unix workstations from Sun Microsystems Inc, marketed by Xerox as the Xerox 6500 series, and Xerox 6085 workstations, the remnants of its last computer line. XSoft will work closely with the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center on products that improve information flow among office workers.
