Rank Xerox UK Ltd will be investing UKP165m in research, development and manufacturing with UKP30m earmarked for a new research centre, UKP45m to expand product development work in the UK and UKP90m for expansion of manufacturing: the research centre will include a new laboratory in Europe, adding to the research that started with the EuroParc laboratory in Cambridge, UK; the laboratory, which has yet to be built, will cover two areas, government scientific activity and examination of work processes in order to devise more humane working practices; as the second part of the investment package, Rank Xerox will redevelop its Welwyn Garden City site into a systems centre that will concentrate on document management system and software development, the establishment of a product integration facility and customer support; the remaining UKP90m will go towards expansion of the manufacture of document processing products in Rank Xerox factories with a view to meeting and surpassing the 50% minimum requirement for European suppliers under which the components are to be made in Europe.
