It was originally thought that Microsoft would pitch its new product at the upcoming E3 games conference in LA, where Sony is demonstrating its Playstation 3 and Nintendo its Revolution. Now it has emerged that the software giant is trumping its competitors by shunning the show (although the company are denying using these tactics), opting instead to market the Xbox directly to its consumers via a popular medium.

Microsoft is claiming that the program, entitled MTV Presents: The Next Generation Xbox Revealed, is an attempt to change the way that games publishing does business. In a further effort to demonstrate what they call their commitment to the fans, the show will be hosted by Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood and will feature music from The Killers.

The noise surrounding the introduction of the Xbox has been fuelled by debates over its gaming capabilities and hard drive. The MTV show, according to industry observers, will attempt to answer some of these questions by demonstrating gameplay from future Xbox games and illustrating its online gaming service.

The program has been reported as just a teaser for Xbox fans, however, as the company has not yet revealed a ship date for the console.
