XAPIA, the X400 Application Programming Interface Association is trying to decide whether a new programming interface is needed to provide a consistent interface between client applications and the directories they use. To help it make up its mind, it is holding a meeting on February 6 in La Jolla, California, and is inviting users and vendors to attend and make their opinions known. Following the meeting, the association’s Executive Committee will decide whether to press ahead with development work. It says the meeting is being held following requests from organisations wanting a new programming interface which, it says, would complement its existing Common Messaging Calls, and Calendar and Scheduling application programming interfaces. Specifically, a new interface would enable applications to access directory services regardless of their location or the application type.
