The major vendors are upgrading their X-terminal offerings ahead of UniForum, and on Friday, Hewlett-Packard Co announced four models of its high-performance HP Envizex stations. They are claimed to be the first to offer attachment to 100VG-AnyLAN as well as Ethernet and Token Ring, the new 100Mbps communications link enabling users to take advantage of applications that require large transfers of data, such as imaging and multimedia applications. The company also plans 100VG-AnyLAN support on HP 9000 Series 700 workstations and HP 9000 Series 800 servers. The new stations run the EnWare 5.3 software, which costs $700, but release 6.0 is due in May. Prices for the new X terminals go from $3,200 to $5,300 and are available now, the firm said.
